Most of you probably know that the first Pick of the Week for 2009 covers several week's worth of images (December 14 through January 3). Which means two things:

1. The challenge in coming up with just ONE image got dramatically harder for me!

2. At least a couple of images that normally would have been selected as a Pick of the Week have to passed over and not receive the recognition they deserve. Sorry - perhaps a little recognition here will help!

Since Dec 14th we had some absolutely fabulous images in the Fauna Gallery. Honourable mentions go to Danny Green for his beautiful image simply entitled "Red Deer Stag"; Dan Walters for his endearing image "Red Fox"; and Edwin Kats for his eye-catching shot called "European Otter".

Ultimately my final choice came down to two outstanding images - on any given week either could have easily been the hands-down choice! It's almost unfortunate that both were posted during the same qualifying period. First runner-up goes to
Fabiola Forns for "Mountain Vixen in Snow" - a gorgeous image of a red fox enduring a snow storm. And the first Pick of the Week for 2009 goes to Marsel van Oosten for his incomparable shot of an elephant on the edge of Victoria Falls - appropriately titled "The Edge".

Congrats to all!

Cheers...

Brad

Brad, thanks for taking the time to post this! No doubt, selecting one image per week is tough enough but when the time frame is longer, the difficulty increases exponentially.
