I am very close to making a decision. I have been checking the product reviews and there have been some negitive ones relating to firmware and firewire. Has anyone experienced these issues? I may be getting a laptop as well so considereing a Mac. I am not enamoured of Vista yet - any/all opinions welcome!
Thanks!

Still happy with mine. It's USB 2.0. I considered upgrading to the firewire version but haven't yet. It just quietly sits on my desk and does it's job!
I'm also loving my Mac Pro. I finally removed the PCs from my office - committing that I don't need to fall back to them for files or apps. I may build a PC game machine/file server but I'm fully converted to Mac. In terms of Mac and Firewire, the only type of external drive that can be used to boot from is firewire drives. I don't know if you could boot from a Drobo, but you might consider that fact when looking at other external drive solutions.
Good luck!

My Drobo (Firewire 800) seems to work fine. It makes more noise than I thought it would--you can hear the drives being accessed (clunk, clunk)--sometimes even when TimeMachine isn't backing up. I have it daisey-chained through two external Western Digital drives and sometimes my network loses contact with the drives and/or the Drobo. Not sure what is going on there but I have to reboot my iMacs in order for the network to see the Drobo and the two external drives again. PITA!! I blame OS X and not the Drobo. I could be wrong (first time for eveything I guess! ). I have had to retrieve files from the Drobo via TimeMachine and had no problems. Mine has 4TB of storage. I do like the simplicity of the system. Plug it in and go!

I still love Drobo. Although my original USB Drobo is now being used as my primary backup. I didn't realize how slow it is (for digital photography anyway) until I tried an eSATA drive. So, I opted for a new, speedy eSATA drive for primary photo storage. Long Lightroom/Photoshop sessions are that much more enjoyable now. (I'll buy another Drobo when they come out with eSATA.)
Software automatically backs up my primary hard drive onto the Drobo weekly. And it's slowly filling up with each shoot ... still doing it's job, and I never think about it (maybe once a year?). It emailed me recently, asking me to add another drive. So, I feed it and life goes on.

I am not enamoured of Vista yet...
Not sure why.
Seems to do everything I need and has been a solid and stable OS.
Does anybody know when an eSATA option for brobo will be available? And has anybody used the network version ? How is teh performance over a 100mbps switch or gb?
Thanks.
