Emerging Seal
Shot last weekend at a well known seal colony  We were laying down flat, waiting to approach some adults in the surf, when this juvenile emerged right in front of us. The seal presumed we were a just another pair of seals and lumbered up the shore went to sleep only a couple of metres away. We backed off, the seal woke up and came close again... just lonely I guess.

Somehow managed to inadvertently avoid several members of UKNP even though I was with a 6'6" tall Masai - just shows you how big the place is for those that have not been there. Sorry I missed you guys, but I only saw several upright dots that day!

Canon EOS 1Ds mkII, EF600mm f/4 IS L, Gitzo tripod opened wide for low shooting angle, black widow gimbal head, 1/500th @ f/4.0, contrast curve alteration, 5200K.

Elliot, nice action shot and I like the out of focus foreground and background which frames the action nicely, right place right time.

Nice work. A bit cold over here for a Maasai at the moment!

Very cold! :frown: He couldn't feel his feet after a couple of hours despite the extra layers that I gave him. Brave soul though! Hope you had a good day Elizabeth :wavey:

really great image, the muted palette and low angle are fantastic, reminds me of an otter shot you posted ages ago

I like it as it is Elliot; but I also think that with the symetry of the splash a central composition would work very well too!

off centre composition makes this shot for me. Like the out of focus foreground too, well captured

cheers

Lovely action shot Elliot. Shame the conditions were not like this when i was there. Sandstorm made everything appear yellow, dirty and rarely have there eyes open.

Hopefully I will have better luck when I head up again in Nov-Dec
