I am still using PS 7 and don't understand the relationship between that version and CS 2 and above. I want to decide whether to upgrade or not or if that is even possible. I have looked at the Adobe web site but don't see an answer to my questions. Thanks for your responses.

Bob:
Photoshop CS is Version 8, CS2 is version 9, CS3 if version 10, and now CS4 is version 11. I'm not certain on Adobe's upgrade policy, but I'm guessing you can't upgrade from version 7 to CS4 for the upgrade price.

Thanks, that clears up what is not very clear on the Adobe web site.

I know you can upgrade at least to CS2 because I originally upgraded from ver. 6 to CS2. I don't remember about CS3. I just upgraded to CS4 and they only allow an upgrade from CS there. Hope this helps.

The improvements from PS7 to CS4 are vast.
Well worth migrating to if you can swing it!
I was unable to upgrade from PS6 to PS CS3. I had to pay full price for CS3 I expect that you won't be able to upgrade from 7 to CS4. You can check on Adobe's website. By the way, CS stands cor Creative Suite.

Many thanks for the information. I will research and proceed from here.

The last discount upgrade from PS7 was the upgrade do CS3. If you try to do that through Adobe directly, they tell you that they no longer sell CS3, so you are APPARENTLY out of luck. HOWEVER, there just might be one way to get the upgrade discount to get to CS3. That is by searching retailers who may still have the CS3 upgrade package for sale. It will probably cost about $220 ($20 more than the download used to cost from Adobe, because you get the package with the DVD media and Video lessons -- but that's a long shot, because most retailers are probably out of the CS3 upgrade package. May be worth a try. If you do manage to find the CS3 upgrade on the retailer's shelf, what you get is the ability to stretch out your paymemts to catch up to CS4, because with CS3, you can upgrade to CS4 anytime for another $200. That's a bit cheaper than paying full price for CS4, too. CAUTION: If you do manage to find an old copy of the CS3 upgrade, just make VERY sure you still have the valid serial number for your old PS7 purchase made by you, so you can activate your new CS3 upgrade. Otherwise, you would have just wasted $220. (See if the retailer will take it back if Adobe refuses to upgrade it using your serial number.) Good Luck.

You can also just search for a full version of CS3. I found one for 215 last week. After installing it I had to down load the cs3 updates to get camera raw to function Now I have a perfect legal copy.

I have been using 6.0 for years but recently bought a new copy of CS 2 on ebay for $165.00 and I am very glad I did.

I just looked on Amazon and you can still get CS3 upgrade (Windows) for $175.00. CS4 upgrade (Windows again) is about $189.00.

One of the better deals involves buying a cheap copy of PS Elements (v.4 and above), and then upgrading to CS4.
Adobe has had a long running discount for Elements users to upgrade to the full version of PS for just $299 using this link.

Under "terms and conditions" it states this offer expired November 30 2008.

Thanks for the update, John.
Thought I'd check it out by running a purchase as far as I dared without actually buying it, and it was a go all the way. Wouldn't hurt to try.

Thanks John, in that case.... noting to do but give it a go!

I suggest that you call Adobe. I find them helpful and will work with you. This is only a guess, but would think you could upgrade to CS4. If that is the case, do that upgrade.
