Spent xmas with the outlaws in central Sweden. We were lucky enough to locate a feeding station for the jays. Whilst the weather was good there was a very small window of opportunity with direct light, the rest of the time struggling. The trunk shows how cold it was, -10.

Hi Jon,
Nice study of what at times can be a real pain to pin down.
Would have been pushing the iso up on this one.

Really good feather detail & the nice sharp eye make this image stand out well.
Doesn’t look quite right to me. “Light illuminates and Shadow defines” and apart from the faint shadow on the tail, I see other shadows. The presence of the shadow on the tail tends to eliminate the possibility of reflected light. Which leaves Flash, if used it has been superbly handled.
An excellent capture/portrait, looks like it could be married ??

Nice detail around the eye but lost a bit in DOF but otherwise I think you did well in the circumstances. I think I would have pushed it a bit to get a bit more of the bird in focus but it's nice anyway..

Very nice Jon. Sharp where it counts and a nice sky behind. Eric
What an attractive looking species. Beautiful light and the combination of soft blue backdrop and ice crystals make a wonderful setting.

Wow John this is really nice, love the pose and the light, very difficult working in Scandanavia at this time of the year as the sun only just skims the horizon but you have handled it well for this shot, I have tried for Siberian Jays and know how difficult they can be so great shot.

Find this a very attractive shot Jon, the blue really emphasises the cold
