Taken in a harbour while it was sat on top of a Trawler. It may seem an unatural perch & setting but there was more life in the harbour than what was at Bempton Cliffs that day. (A very cold & windy Bempton)

Well it is a nice shot in the circumstances.. did you manage to get a portrait version..? I think it may have worked better in this situation to see a little more of the mechanical object it was standing on otherwise we're left thinking what it might be and without your description it could have been on a building site..! Might want to take out the dropping on the perch to..! Otherwise, nicely exposed and good detail on the subject, blacks and whites balanced well..
A very nice portrait indeed. For me there is just enough of the perch to provide interest, but not enough to dominate the gull, excellent comp., exposure etc..

I like shots that include man-made clutter. A nice image of a bird that I haven't seen on here much. Although I frequently remove the dodgy droppings from my pictures, it always seems more appropriate in gull shots and doesn't bother me unduly. Eric

Like the comp, good exposure, but I find the oof railings? a bit distracting, my eye seems to be led to them.

Thanks to all for the comments & advice.
No I did not get a portrait shot Brett, though it wouldnt really have shown anything than more of the yellow mast (a crane of some sort) I have tried a portrait crop leaving more of the perch in & it does make a nice image. The railings are the corrugated metal of the harbour wall.
