Hi all
Now that I've joined CANP, I want to post my first photo in here and see what you think. I like this but I'm wondering if anyone else does, if it's too abstract, or if it works at all. I'd love to know your thoughts.
Shot at the Ancient Bristlecone forest at sunset

I had to compress this one quite a bit so hopefully that doesn't create too many issues.

First off welcome to forum Mike!
Great composition and color hitting the Bristlecone! I really like this one. You are making me want to get up there since I have never been. These types of trees always interest me. And with the full moon could be a great potential subject with the stars.

Things I like: deep rich colors, wonderful textures and the unconventional composition that highlights the beauty of these gnarled structure of these trees.
I'm a little ambivalent about the barren fg in the LLC. Although the colors and contrast wouldn't be so pronounced, did you happen to take any longer exposures with the light levels considerably dimmer? I was thinking that might allow the barren fg to be less noticeable, but still highlight the wonderful structure of that tree. Still a nice image to look at as presented though.

Mike,
Welcome to CANP. We're a bit more quite than the main forums, but we try... :-)
This works very well for me. I love the light and color/saturation of the bristlecone. The perspective is excellent and I like that you've filled most of the frame with this ancient tree. I don't see how this could be "too abstract;" the bristlecone is naturally a bit abstract and I think you've captured that natural look very well. My only nit would be that the depth of field is so good that I find the background pines not necessarily distracting, but competing for attention. Not a bit deal though.
Mike,
Welcome to CANP. I like the textures you've got here. The upper branch does create a window, but I don't think its too abstract. After all, it is a Bristlecone. Best Regards.
