Full Moon Snow Camp
Some friends and I skied out into the Siskiyou Range back country behind Mt. Ashland last weekend during the full moon. On cue, it rose directly over Mt. Ashland. I waited for it to get up in the sky a bit and then composed this photo. I put in a fair amount of PS time blending exposures to try to balance out all the various light sources (back lighting from moon, front lighting from the fading sunset glow, the moon itself and the light in the tent). I also placed a slightly enlarged version of the moon in the same location where the moon actually was. Not sure if the final image was worth all the computer time, but at least it was a fun night out. I'll probably post this over in man and nature too. Cheers!

5D, 28-135mm, manual blend of three different exposures, superimposed moon, additional luminosity masking, some dodging, burning and light painting all on a sesame seed bun.

I would say the computer time paid off, Sean. This is a very exciting adventure shot, worthy of Backcountry Magazine or one of the other A/T mags. Here's to skinnin' and grinnin' :toast:

Looks good to me also. The left bright tree may be grabbing to much attention. :)

Very nice looks like you have all the elements working together nicely. One nit pick. The light at the summit of Mt Ashland is distracting to me for some reason.

Hey Ray - That white dot at the top of Mt. A is the big Doppler radar ball. In a higher res image it is more obvious what it is. It would certainly look more natural without it, but since the BRT (big round thing) is such a landmark on Mt. A I decided to leave it as location identification.

Nice work here Sean. I would love to sit here and check out the scenery with a nice adult beverage.

looks like a great place to spend a night! Your time on the computer has paid off and thanks for the full details on what you've done - it's really interesting to hear.
