Kansas Armadillo
I found this live armadillo a couple weeks ago at Quivira NWR. I've seen plenty of dead armadillos but this is only the second live specimen I've found. The armadillo pretty much ignored me while rooting amongst the leaves along side the road. This pose occurred when another car pulled up near him. I wish I had been down lower, but I wasn't expecting any sort of response. I just posted a different photo in Fauna, along with one a couple weeks ago in that forum on the day I found him.

Ugly indeed, but great capture of such an elusive animal. Didn't realize there was so much detail to them. I always see them smashed along side the road.

Great detail shot of a critter that can do a lot of damage. We don't have them in this part of Missouri yet - but they are coming. I most often hear them referred to as "opossum on the half shell".

Good environmental portrait Rob. I wouldn't do it now but once upon a time I walked up on one of these grabbed his tail and just held it there while it was looking around wondering why it wasn't going anywhere. They really only have enough brain power to power the 4 legs, not much left over for problem solving.

They apparently have enough brain power for reproduction because their advance north is noticeable. A very nice environmental shot of a specimen I've yet to encounter in the wild. Thanks for sharing Rob.

Great shot. I've seen these critters in the wild (not road kill) twice - once at Deep Fork WMA by Okmulgee Ok, and once at Holla Bend. Both times I had slow glass and got blurry pix. My impression was that they were very shy. Guess this one was an exhibitionist.

Great shot, again the detail in this shoot is fantastic. I've never seen one of these alive...
