Mayflower Winter
I met up with some of the members of the Nature Photographers of Colorado forum for an afternoon snowshoeing trip to Mayflower Gulch on Saturday. The sunset light didn't quite happen the way we had hoped for but there ended up being a little bit of a glow in the evening as well as plenty of challenging low-contrast scenes throughout the day. The fogginess of the area was interesting to try to work with and the old mining cabins made for nice subjects too. Here are a few of my shots from the afternoon.

A second shot from through the same window pictured at the lower left of the first image.

A little of the "glow" we experienced at near the time of the sunset.

Looks like a lot of snow up there right now! I like the 1st and 3rd a lot. The glow might be subtle, but it adds a lot to the image. Nice work, Joshua!

All excellent images - but I love your take on the 2 cabins in #1! One of the better Mayflower images I've seen.

Wow! I thought we've had a good snow year. The 1st is my favorite; the snow cornices are so soft and sensual in contrast to the hard edges and color variations of the logs and the ladder. I'm definitely going to make more trips to CO.

It was great to meet you, Joshua. :wavey:

Very good compositions on all 3.
That could have been a killer sunset.

Hey Josh, i really like that first shot, the browns contrast nicely against all the white, and the perspective is cool!

I'm very partial to #1 for the composition and #3 for the subtle sky color. Very good!
I was doing some powder skiing at Copper Mt on Friday, they opened with 3-6 inches depending on how high up the mountain you were measuring, and cuz I couldn't get enough I went again Tuesday with another 6 inches reported. Vail and Copper have been getting almost daily snow showers with some being heavy, last week Wednesday, Copper reported 15 inches. I missed that dump but heard the skiing was epic, with multiple face shots!
