Isle Royale path
I was inspired by Chuck Beatty's use of the Orton technique so I applied it to an image from Isle Royale taken on slide film years ago. I'd appreciate comments about whether this works or not. Maybe too much blur?

Ken,
Since I don't have anything for comparison, it seems great to me, in terms of the Orton effect. Now, in terms of the composition, this photo really tells a great story and is inspiring...

Tim!

Not sure about the effect but it is a nice shot with the trees and path. I hope you did follow it a ways to see what other things were on it. I think that I would have liked it just as well as it was but if you are happy so am I.

Ah, this is very nice. I prefer it to the other version I've seen. The image has a bit of a red cast though, which could easily be corrected. Very nice idea and execution. I bet it will look great printed on matte fine art paper.

Ken, this is nice. I like the root system on these two conifer specimens and could see a crop off the top to draw alittle more focus towards them. What part of the island did you find this? :toast:

Thanks for the comments.

Joel - I took some red out and it looks better.

Mitch - this was on the SW end of the island out of Windigo, I think on the Huginnin Cove loop.

Good idea to use the Orton effect on this image, Ken, although personally I might cut back on it just a bit. The intertwined roots are a real eye catcher!

I love the composition. The trees intertwined make a great frame, and the path into the woods makes for a beautiful scene. I like the effect, but agree with Joel about it seeming a tad high in the reds. Try playing with the temperature and see what happens.

Looks like more of a magenta cast than red, but I'm viewing this on an uncalibrated monitor, so take that with a large grain of salt. I think the Orton effect here worked very nicely.
