It works for me, but what is that forked thing reflected in his eye, a tree?

Lol - It's the dead tree in front of my hide/shed. It's in most of my small bird shots as well. It never occurred to me that I would have to watch my bg as well as the birds.
Nice one Mark.

Highly detailed portrait, but the image has a blue cast on my screen?

nice image, very detailed, i think Tony is right about the blue cast, easy to fix though

Very nice with a good soft BG, the tree in the foreground is little distracting but still very nice.

That's a real portrait. Or even close-up.
Great shot.

a nicely detailed portrait Mark, I like it. Some of the feathers, particularly the pale ones towards the bottom of the image look like they've been smoothed slightly, presumably from noise reduction? If so, a bit of masking might help retain more detail.

Good portrait Mark - unusual to see even of this common bird so well spotted and composed.

I think I would prefer the subject to be lower in the frame, otherwise an excellent portrait.
