If you live near south Florida, you should know there is some great bird photography to be had at Wakodahatchee Wetlands right now. This morning was fantastic. Waders breeding, displaying and building nests. Marsh hawks tree-hopping, iguanas (unfortunately) sunning, and some very enormous gators lounging on the beaches of the islands. I had lens-envy bad.
Saw a gorgeous breeding male anhinga scream past a line of big bird lenses. It had a piece of lime green cypress tree in its bill and cypress trees for a background. It was killing me because I have no long lens! But then I saw a gorgeous male specimen of the human species ... holding my favorite flight lens and smiling at me. Dear God ...
I wanted that lens but was too shy to look at him for more than a second.
But it's good to be back in the field :)
You all helped me get back in the field and I will never forget it. And, I'm sorry if I don't respond to emails or posts. Blunt as always ... I have become a recluse and painfully shy. This was very hard.
I'm trying hard to get back into my old life and feel the old joys that made me the passionate artist I was. And today was monumental for me. I just wanted to share it with those who helped me get there.

Good to hear you are getting back out there Gloria. Maybe if you go there enough that guy will talk to you eventually.
Hi Gloria, I've been to Wako a couple of times now when visiting from the UK and will hopefully be going back very soon as I'll be in West Palm Beach for a week starting 27th Jan. I was last there at the start of Dec and there was some activity but sounds like it's really picked up now so I look forward to visiting. How early in the morning did you get there to see everything?
Small world...if you visit Wakodahatchee I assume you are also familiar with Loxahatchee. I was at Lox all day yesterday and had experiences similar to yours at Wako. It was a great day wasn't it!!
Thanks for pointing it out Gloria. I'll be visiting family in Delray Beach in the middle of October, so hopefully it's not too bad a time of year in terms of number of birds.
After seeing Lance Warley's posts on the SENP forum I made a point to check out Wako when I was down there the first week of January. I got there at sunrise not knowing what to expect. Boy, did I feel outclassed by to Photogs there! Gloria is right, this is a great place to go for bird photography. I got to spend a couple hours at Wako then a short time at the larger Green Cay Wetlands just a couple miles away. Didn't make it to Lox.
If you have time, you might want to go to the National Orchid Society Headquarters just a couple miles south of Wako. There is a fee to get in, but the green house it teriffic!
I've not finished going through my shots from Wako yet. Here's one of the nesting GBH.
