I was wondering if anyone has gone up to Sauk City Wisconsin (about 30 minutes north of Madison) to see the bald eagles that hang out there this time of year? I was thinking of heading out there next Saturday and was wondering where in that area is a good place to see them. I found some info through google about the town and that the eagles are there this time of year, but nothing on where.
Thanks!

I haven't been down there for some time but the eagle watching area is right in the middle of town. I noticed they were mentioned on CBS Morning today. Looked like there were lots of them around.

Hi Eric,
I've been there a few times (I drive through Sauk Prairie most of the time when I head to the Baraboo Hills), and while I've found it interesting, I've also found it to be photographically difficult. The majority of the observation areas are along the main road that runs through the towns along the river, and up on the bluff. I've never had a long enough lens when I've been there; I've always been at least 500 meters from any eagles I've seen. However, I've not explored the possibilities of getting closer to the river so that I have a better point of view...
Thanks for the helpful info Tim! I'm figuring on spending the morning looking for eagles, then head on down to the botanical gardens in Madison to defrost. We'll see how it goes.
Just to update, the search for eagles did not go very well on Saturday. Like Tim mentioned, most observation areas are very far away. I tried to get closer to the river and found it difficult to access as most of the land is private property or is public land that is off limits from November through April for the eagles. It was also pretty cold, about 4 degrees in the sun, so that may have impacted their activity level quite a bit. From listening to a few folks, it sounds like there aren't many in the area this year, maybe only a few pairs. Thanks again for the help. Perhaps I will get to see them another time or place, as I've been thinking of heading down to Starved Rock State Park at some point.
