Or rather a wild turkey shot. I took my new Canon 50D body out for a spin today to see what it could do. Got this shot from the road near my office as I was driving home early this afternoon. I know the afternoon light created a few blown highlights but I thought that overall, this environmental shot wasn't too bad in terms of sharpness given the distance to subject.

Congrats on getting a 50D. I think you did a fine job with the turkey. You caught the color on the sides which saves the bird from being really dark.

Nice, detail, Wayne, how do you like the live view screen?

Tom, I've yet to use the live view feature. I'm not sure that I'd like it anyway. I am always amazed when I watch people with their little point and shoots holding them at arms length trying to get the shot.
I'll have to read up on how much battery life you lose when using the live view and see if it's worth the trade off.
Great capture , Wayne. great detail and colour. These boys can be really fast and hard to capture.

Wayne, I think the benefit of the live view will be for fine tuning your focus, especially on a tripod. I am not sure if the 50D has the 10x zoom option that the 5D MII has but this really helps for fine tuning.

Congrats on the 50D - it's a great camera for those long shots!

The 50D has the 10x option. Liveview is nice for odd or low angle shots. It eats battery life, but IMO is worth it for many situations.
