I saw the pictures in a work colleague’s mail. I've never seen a buzzard hunt in that manner. It was almost an osprey like strike. Nice grab shots though!

Rob,

Paul is a local bobby from here in Cornwall, also part of cwbps and this website http://www.cornwall-birding.co.uk/ , When I was up in Warwickshire the Buzzards were seen catching our local Little Owls on several occasions, Buzzards are more than capable of catching birds they must just chose the easy life of eating worms, this happened after an unusual cold snap for these parts which must have made him choose a tasty Birdie.

Cheers
Brian

Are phalaropes particularly soft targets, only there was a shot on here a while ago of somebody photographing one from about two feet with a compact and a couple of years back I'm sure one was nobbled by a pike before all of his audience managed to tick him off their lists. Perhaps they are too trusting or slow. I once had a buzzard hit a plastic pigeon decoy lofted in a tree but other than that I can't ever remember seeing one strike anything.
Remarkable shots and I will be surprised and disappointed if the photographer hasn't earned a nice cheque from his agency for these shots. Well -deserved for being on the ball.
