Wren, Leighton Moss Nature Reserve, North Lancashire, summer 2008

Came across this unusually obliging wren, it seemed completely preoccupied with singing. I had some freedom of movement and sought the clearest most pleasing background but unfortunately I could never get rid of the irritating branch infront of the bird. Sometimes you just have to accept whats on offer.

Techs
1D2N 400mm 5.6L x1.4 teleconv, monopod. ISO640 F8 1/250th, cropped to vertical. Usual processing in Lightroom and CS4. To make the background branches on the left less intrusive selectively used Lens Blur filter in CS4.

Comment much appreciated

That is fantastic John. I think these little birds are great but I have never satisfactorily pictured one. I'd love to get something as good as this.

Great stuff. Branch doesn't bother me that much. You could even get away with a tight head crop.

I've been chasing one that appears to be living in a reed bed and have had no success so far - this is really nice. My eye is drawn to the mouth and eye and I don't really notice the branch.

Taken at a very opportune moment, a first rate study of a Wren.

Good one. I have never seen one sat still. Well spotted & taken.
