Never been there, but I am lucky enough to have a photograph america newsletter for the Oregon coast (issue #6). It was updated in July of 2008 and has many good suggestions on where to go on a 1 week trip down the coast from Portland. Might be worth picking up a copy of that issue any any others (like mt. St. Helens) if you are going to spend a lot of time in the area. (www.photographamerica.com)

Bandon Beach with its' seastacks is a must. Seal Rocks is good for animal life and tide pools (low tide only). Sweet Creek (just outside of Florence) is a one mile hike up a creek, there are so many shots you could spend an entire day hiking this one mile. Heceta Head Lighthouse is very nice. I also suggest just driving Hwy 101 along the coast. You'll find yourself stopping a lot, there is so much to shoo. You also might consider David Middleton's and Rod Barbee's "The photographer's guide to the Oregon Coast". If you're going to be in Portland, there are very nice Japanese and Chinese gardens along with a lot of flower opportunities (but don't know what their status would be at this time. Good shooting!

Never been there, but from what I hear, and judging from photos I've seen, there are plenty of awesome locations just waiting for an intrepid photographer.

You might want to post this question on PNWNP as well....I've seen some great images from that forum.

Great waterfalls along the Columbia River Gorge. You can get up close and personal with a few of them. You can stand by the catch pool and feel the earth shake. We found the middle - end of May a great time. Also as you cross the Oregon-California border you must spend a day or two in the Redwood forest. Lady Bird Johnson grove is tremendous when the rhodedendron are in bloom.

I visited and shot the entire Oregon Coast last Spring with my family. You can't go wrong any where along that rugged coastline. I bought about a dozen books on Oregon which helped. One of the best resource is viewing images from areas you may want to visit yourself.

The southern porting from Bandon to Brookings is arguably the most scenic. My personal favorite was Samuel Boardman State Park in Brookings. I recommend spending more time in this southern portion if you can. You can view my trip photos here:
