For every storm there's a clearing...
Seeing some of the excellent Yosemite images posted here made me go back to my old files and tweak what I had. This image comes from my first camping photo trip ever. Sure, I had taken day trips before this, but never had I camped out over night or gone to another state just for photography.

Blended two files to get more of the tree line. Wish more was included as the earlier B. Pezman post and like the excellent images of J. Holmes. Two inspirations for more tree line!

Now I hear they cut down the trees.

A classic, and a beauty, nicely done! The fresh snow, soft light, and stormy clouds are perfect.

Art,

This one is a real beauty. And 'Yes' I miss those foreground trees!

What was the date of this capture? Just curious.

Thanks for posting,

Derek

This is beautiful. It might be an icon, but I never get tired of seeing it.

Thanks, for the comments. I realized a compositional tendency of mine of not balancing the subject with enough foreground. I really "fought" the trees in trying to compose this and learned I should have included more...now since they cut the trees down I'll have to find another good bunch for foreground material, if I'm so lucky to see Yosemite again.

Derek,

Where do you reside now?

To answer your question this was taken in March 06, I believe it was the 4th.

Art,

I moved from CO to CA about 6 months ago. I now live in Monterey with my family. So I am ~ 4 hours to Yosemite which I am really pysched about.

I took one kamakazi day trip there right after the new year just to see some snow. Left at 2:30AM with enough time to setup for sunrise. Stayed all day until sunset. Then drove home. That was a long day. Next time I plan to stay at least one night. I am hoping we get at least one more big snow like you show in your image and the guys got over Christmas.

Beautiful scene with the fresh snow. Great light too.

The heavy snow adds a wonderful touch to that image! The foreground trees to me do not distract from the overall image at all and you are right, make a wonderful frame to pull the image into a very beautiful scene, especially with the snow sitting so wonderful on the trees.

I have not seen which trees have been cut down on the Tunnel view so I cannot comment to which ones got the axe, but I truly hope it is not the ones in your great shot. My impression was that it was the ones right next to the sidewalk. Am I wrong?
