I was inspired by Lance Warley's photos from Wakodahatchee wetlands in South Florida. I saw a post yesterday on the NP Discussion forum about Wakodahatchee, which reminded me that I never posted anything from my trip there in the first week of January.
I had not been there before, which was amazing because I grew up about 30 miles away. Wasn't much into wildlife or photography back then.....
If you are in the Delray Beach area of S. Florida I encourage you to go. Tons of bird photography opportunities in a very nice setting. There were dozens of photographers there at sunrise the day I was there. There's also Green Cay and Loxahatchee wetlands not far away.
I came away with lots of shots, but I had to go up to 1600 ISO on many which resulted in too much noise and the shots are a little soft for my taste. This one was the very first one I shot, when the sun was still below to horizon.

A beauty.
Very striking.
Here's a thought - I don't know if this will help, but here are a couple of things I do when I get a real beauty like this:
- In ACR, try lowering the exposure and/or the brightness to hopefully bring out more detail in the whites.
- Then, in PS proper, in Selective Color, pick Whites from the pull-down and then increase Black within the Whites.
Nice! I'd like to see some legs, though. I've always been a legs man. ;)

Nice shot Richard! I agree with Richard B on showing a bit of leg and with Lance on a bringing out a bit more detail in the white feathers, particularly on the back. One other minor item might be a slightly lower point of view closer to eye level with the bird, which feels a bit more intimate usually. Love the subject isolation that the black/white contrast creates!
BTW: I notice you are in Kingsport. I am in Bristol, TN, just up the road. We will have to connect sometime and go shoot. Let me know!! Also were you aware of the photo contest that Bays Mtn is having? They have more info on their home page http://www.baysmountain.com/
