Viviparous Lizard Portrait..
Hi Folks,

Thank you for your interest in the recent 'Seal FM' image and I will be sure to find another seal image to come back with some answers to your questions regarding that..

In the meantime, I thought you might like to take a look at this handsome chap... A male Common or Viviparous Lizard. As it's namesake suggests, the female of the species gives birth to her young and therefore does not lay eggs. This is one of my target species for the coming year as I have a lot of other images I would like to get.

I know some of you would prefer if it wasn't so large in the frame but it is a 'portrait' after all..

Kind regards,

Brett

I like how it is in the frame Brett, it suits this image. Very good details too.

I know it’s a portrait, and an excellent one at that. I can see why you included the nearest leg, as it does add considerably to the image. But I do think you need more space on the left, particularly as I think the knot in the wood would also add some more interest. Just a step back would have solved it.

Although tight in the frame, still an excellent shot.

Well, you'll be pleased to know Ray that I have a substantial number of shots from this session and many others that are from different angles, viewpoints and different rotations.. Just so happened I was working on a talk that I am giving this week and am using this image, so thought I'd post it...

Thanks for your comment..

Great portrait, Brett. For me the 'tight in the frame' consideration counts more when the entire animal is within the frame, and producing a portrait can be more of a challenge because you have to decide how much of the animal to keep in the frame and how much to leave out. I think you've got a good balance here, with the emphasis on the head but extra interest provided by the legs.

A lovely shot Brett, I tried flipping the image and think, for me, its a tad better. The only problem with the flipped shot is that its taken by some Swedish guy called Tterb Siwel ?
Roll on macro season!

A superbly detailed portrait Brett. It suits the framing and although my original thought was that it needed more space to the left, having looked at it more closely it would appear the lizard has a 'Mona Lisa' eye! If you try looking at it from any angle the eye always appears to be following you!!! and that keeps the viewers eye from falling out the left of the image.
Hope that makes sense? (now where did I put that whiskey?).

Nice one Brett and unusual in the upright stance which you don't see that often. Bit more room on the left maybe ?
Good lens though eh ?!
Got a nice colony of these in the garden so like you I,ll be going off the birds a bit next year.
Cheers
