Clouded Dome
This is from a trip I took with my daughter last March. The valley floor was not adding to the scene, so I eliminated it entirely in this one. I spent many nights on top of Half Dome in the late 70's and early 80's, but those memories are a little cloudy, like this image. I had my Mamiya/Sekor 500 TL with me and I still have the slides (and the camera).
Thanks for looking and comments.

That has got to rank up there as one of the coolest clouds to ever have blanketed half dome! The cloud, snow, and comp rock!

Oh my god, Half Dome has a red headed toupee and it feels like a warm one.

Very nice capture Rudy. You lucky to have whitnessed that. What timing!

Incredible catch Rudy! The light and cloud combo is wonderful.

Now this isn't meant as a criticism of your wonderful capture... but for all of us who know and love Yosemite and features such as Half Dome, we can all appreciate the uniqueness and beauty of this capture because we know what's behind the clouds and we've seen Half Dome in many different lights and situations. But I would say that if I was a visitor never having seen or been to Yosemite before, it wouldn't be a postcard I would buy because the dome is obscured so much. I hope that makes sense and you don't take it the wrong way because I think this is a fantastic - and unique image.

Rudy,

I love the color and light around the cloud. It is very dramatic. I am sure it was wonderful to watch roll in.

I do however agree with Lon regarding the degree it obscures half dome.

Steve, you are killing me with red headed toupee. I was thinking it looked more like one of those warm Russian hats.

Rudy, a very interesting look at this from a completely different perspective with the Dome being covered up. Gosh, I wonder what the folks at the top saw during this overlay?.....

This is a cool view of the Dome. I might want to see the version with the valley floor for the perspective it would provide. Hard to know without seeing it.

Steve, very funny about the toupee.

Thanks for the comments everyone, much appreciated.

Lon, I understand and agree. The image doesn't at all capture Half Dome at its full potential. I’ve seen it from all sides, including setting on top with my feet hanging over the edge (not something I plan on repeating), so I know what you mean. But it's one of my favorites.

Harley, here's one with more valley. Not one of my favorites. The good light on the rock and cloud only lasted about two minutes and I wasn’t in the best location. I like the toupee version better.
Thanks,
Rudy

Since, I've never seen a shot like this I think it has a useful purpose somewhere in life.

Maybe for beanie advertisement or commercial,

"When you're stuck out in the cold.. . . Cover your dome!

Don't tell me to not quit my day job because they laid me off so I'll expect my 10% for the idea. Hope I made ya laugh.
