Arkansas River evening with repost
Winter returns on Friday, so I took advantage of one last beautiful afternoon to roam along the banks of the Arkansas River. Here in central Kansas, the river runs shallow over a sandy river bottom. I was standing calf deep in the middle of the river for this shot :). 50D, f/11, 1/100, ISO 400, circ polarizer, small crop.

I've got a feeling we are going to pay for the incredible weather these last two days Rob. Glad you got out to enjoy at least one of them.

I've read that our eyes most often enter a picture's frame near center looking for the subject, when we don't find it there instinctively we scan the image looking for a place for our eyes to find visual interest. Since the river lacks much visual impact at the center I'd suggest cropping the much of the bottom and a little of the left side to create a pano format which would help lead the eye into the bend in the river. Just my $0.02 worth.

Thanks for sharing, have a great weekend! :wavey:

Thanks for the input Wayne and David. I always struggle trying to make a decent composition of the river. Here is a pano crop. I also posted a vertical version in the Weekly Challenge forum, but once again it has lots of water.....

Of course mine is only one opinion but this is a much more pleasing image. You now have some reflection color evident and a much easier path to travel for the eye. With a gradient layer to increase detail in the sky and a boost in saturation this would go to the next level.

Good work on the repost Rob.

Rob, like the repost a lot better. Nice contrast with the warm glowing light and cool tones of the water.
