I have a pretty good feeling his brakes worked just fine. Nice shot.

great flight, err should I say landing, shot , there does seem to be some haloing around the bird and tree on my monitor but I'd still love to have a shot like this in my files

WOW! This is one of the best posts I've seen in a while! Those are some BIG claws! I don't think I see any haloing on my Apple cinema display or my 46" Sony TV (second monitor). Great shot!

Nice, great shot I like the direction of the light. As you know you got a good one.
I snuck over from Midwest forum and glad I did.

What a great action photo Larry! You chose a perfect vantage point for this approach. I must assume that you had scouted the snag in advance and knew it was a favored roost?
This is such a good moment in the approach that I'd suggest cropping the top and possibly just a tad from the right to move you subject into a PP and bring even more attention to the amazing wing, head and claw positions demonstrated here.
Just excellent!!

Thanks all for the compliments.
I may have a better idea if there is any halo as I have an 8x10 print being delivered tomorrow.
Wayne,
It helps to have access to local knowledge.
The photo is cropped about all it can take and I wanted to keep it at an 8x10 format.

Out of curiosity, did a halo show up in the print? To me, the halo appears as a softer light area around the eagle and the tree, not the sharper halo of oversharpening

Rob,
No halo in the print. I kind of see what you are referring to, at least part of the time. Not sure if it is actually there or if may be just something with the contrast between the sky and the darker areas.
