Chelan County finally got to see the sun yesterday and I climbed the crusty slopes of the Icicle Canyon as it broke over the granite ridge tops. Just before the sun came into view, I got off this shot of shadows of Yellowjacket Tower as it shown against the thin clouds.
I'm gonna agree with Jesse. This looks like it has a lot of promise with all of the cool atmospheric effects, but I am straining to see into the shadows. Something is a little wonky with the FG trees as well. Maybe a little more work in PS?
Definitely more shadow detail Marc, but I think it's at the expense of making it look a bit overprocessed. for that reason, I think I prefer he original. That tree is kind of a distraction, but I know some times these things can't be helped. Must have been quite a sight to witness in person!

Weird and yet wonderful. The light and clouds look otherworldly. I agree that the foreground trees look unnatural.

I think the problem you guys are having with the FG trees are the large ice fog crystals backlit by the sun. I purposely included these trees for a sense of perspective. I guess I should of taken a version w/o them, but that wooded slope was pretty cramped.
Perhaps this new version is a tad too much in the shadowed slope on the left. I'll have to work on this some more.
Thanks for the critiques!

Ah, that's probably it Marc. I wasn't thinking about them being ice-covered.

The second one is nice, Marc. What a weird shadow, it must have been cool to see in person.
There ya go, a good comment and another notch on my ratio.

Tough exposure Marc but after the rework you pulled it off, nice shot. You must have been up the south slope aways to get this angle. I was up the Icicle the same day, one advantage of the freezing fog provides some good photo ops.
