Yep, this Monday night in Borneo, sunset will put on a solar eclipse that will be a once in a lifetime experience. I'm counting on Wayne to put together a field trip really fast!

Check out this photo: http://spaceweather.com/

If you miss this post today, go to the website and look in archives on spaceweather.com for the Jan. 24 posting to see a past solar eclipse photo.

If we get enough partcipants, maybe we can charter a plane.

Best,
Don

Uhhh...you're aware that it's monsoon season in Borneo now, right? Folks there haven't seen the sun in weeks and probably won't tomorrow either :-)

That's ok, We will just take the plane Wayne provides to get there, and fly above the weather.

When do we leave?

Yes, Hans, good point about the monsoon. I just checked the weather forecast and there will be rain and overcast skies for the next 10 days. Fortunately, we will have the plane to cruise above the clouds. Wayne, make sure the plane has removable doors. We don't want to be shooting through those thick windows. And, no tripods please!

Bruce, we leave when Wayne gives us the schedule. Wayne, are you out there?

Here is more info on the annular eclipse:

Note, a total solar eclipse will occur this July!

Best,
Don

Yeah, sorry for the delay in getting back to you guys on this. I contacted Whiteman AFB to see if we couldn't charter one of their B-2 bombers but come to find out there's not enough seating on the darn things! :frown:

Maybe I can find a small fleet of WWI bi-wing's to take us there!
