Forest Jay + hide
Beside the Raven this is the most skittish and smart bird in the Dutch forest. It took me some days to take this shot and this morning I felt the cold like I never felt before. It was just -1C but I left home with the wrong jacket. I sat in my hide before dawn and I think it was about 11 o'clock when I lost control over my fingers. But it was worth the wait.

Largish bird, small in the frame.... an outstanding image Edwin... perhaps a little more space atop and a little less below (?) correction... a little off the right and a little of the bottom...

Hi Edwin,
I think this is an excellent Jay image. The interesting, weathered and warm-toned perch put this one up a notch.
Great to see a shot of your hide too, they don't blend in much better than that.

Excellent shot Edwin. I like the warmth of the colours and different perch to the norm.

A nicely different Jay shot with great light. Good to see you found a good use for your Christmas tree too.

Cracking shot with a very interesting composition.
But what a lot of trouble to go to for a Jay shot! In my local park, I just throw down a few peanuts, and they are at my feet!

Thank everyone :wavey:

Jeremy: I know what you mean. Why shoot polarbears on Spitsbergen and not in a Zoo.
I think it has something to do with a certain challenge.

Great shot! He looks puzzled, as if he's climbed up the perch and can't work out what to do next. I think the composition is perfect.

Stunning light and detail.. Great hide set-up..! I too may have taken a little off the bottom as it does seem just a little high in the frame for me. But stunning nonetheless..

An exceptionally fine shot, perhaps a tad high in the frame, but adding canvas plus cropping would easily solve this, otherwise perhaps less lens. This is why Ilkie using a zoom when wotking from a hide.

beautiful shot, the light and setting are wonderful, hide certainly seems well camouflaged
