After a trip to Mildenhall I came home through the fens and photographed two different Barn Owls, end result being just under 200 retained flight shots, from the car with a beanbag as support Canon EOS1DsMkIII and 600mm f4 IS, slight crop to improve comp
1/1250th at f5.6 400iso, IS off, CF8-3 focus point expanded to surrounding circle.
DPP (daylight colour balance to retain the late afternoon warm colour) and CS3 post processing (resize & sharpen)

A beautifully lit owl - love the underwing detail and the eye catchlight.
Fantastic image Nigel. This type of shot is a perfect counterfoil to the enviro image posted by Gary Beers recently. I can just see a two page spread with Gary's image on the left and yours on the right.

Can I find fault... well only slightlyish and so minor its hardly worth mentioning but I would perhaps like to have seen the other eye as well if possible.

Nice work..

Many thanks to all.
Oh yes Tony ( I thought that was you)........... about 3 weeks ago I had a Barny on a post, someone pulled up right behind me, got out of the car and got his camera & lens out of the boot, then asked me what had happened to the Owl.
There are more of the Barn Owls on my Flickr gallery.

Yes that is a great shot as you know I have been working on them myself but no joy yet must try harder.
