and now for something completely different....
this is a Globular Springtail, less than 2mm in length. I found some under a rock in my garden and, to try something different, encouraged one onto a piece of green plastic with a thin film of water on it. I realise this is a bit strange and not to everyone's taste but I was experimenting. The effect is at least a little different. The springtail returned to its rock within a few minutes. I did take a few focus stacked images as well but preferred this single frame shot.

Canon 30D with MP-E 65 macro lens at around 4:1 magnification. f9, 1/160, ISO 100, diffused Speedlight on side bracket.

All C+C welcomed.

Very unusual Matt but superbly captured.

Very interesting Matt, I do however find the 'chroma key' green a little overpowering but kudos for experimenting, if we didn't then where would we go with our images....

Cool! I quite like the green, seems to enhance the 'alien-ness' of the springtail. Excellent shot, well taken!

Fantastic Matt! The green works for me too, and I love the faint reflection. Very well done! :toast: :toast:

Great to see "experiment" type of shots.
Well done.

Hello Matt.

Its a great shot and I give you 10/10 for trying some thing different. Not to sure about the green keep thinking how it would have looked with black plastic instead. What I do like the most is the colours on this little fellow.

It would be interesting (for me, at least) to see one of the stacked images you took. An excellent shot. Great to see experimentation.

Hey Matt,

I have to say I like the green and the reflection. It looks like it's walking on glass.

Your results really encourage me to get this lense out of the bag this spring.

many thanks for the comments. I'm inclined to agree that the green is a bit over the top. I think I may have to experiment with some other colours
