1D mk3, 400mm, f6.3, 1/125s, -1.3ev PP in Lightroom, 30% cropped off
Hey guys,
I think this is only my second or third post but I've been lurking for a while.
First outing with my new camera body. It was a bit overcast but at least it was dry. I had heard Bittern were showing well at a nearby reserve so off I went. Very lucky - got in the hide and this beauty was about 10 metres in front of it. Meandering up back and forth looking for some grub it was a pleasure to watch.
The new body proves to be very handy too. I reckon the hit rate went up by about 10-15% - redefining previously average photos as rubbish! It's still going to take a bit of time getting the ergonomics right.
I find the comp a bit tight at the bottom-not leaving room for for virtual legs-maybe portrait mode would have worked better,Good habitat shot apart from that

I hope that you cropped this across the bottom, if not, then I think a vertical would I feel, have worked better.
You have shown the Bittern superbly in its environment, well seen and executed.

Hi Chris,
It's a nice shot, although I tend to agree about it being a bit tight at the bottom. But it's a far better view of a bittern than I've ever managed!
You should resize your image to 720 pixels wide and then save it at a slightly lower quality setting to keep it below 200kb. You shouldn't have to reduce the quality too much.
I was playing with the quality slider a little and it did seem to make a difference. Unfortunately, I haven't cropped off at the bottom but there are a few more frames from the same day. I'll post a vertical one soon.

Any C&C welcome.

I had trouble getting it up to a decent size without it going over the size limit (200kbs). Any tips?
