Snow bunting
I spent a lot of time trying to get a POV I liked of these. Too low and it looks like a ball of feathers in the pebbles! I went for one with legs, but not that sure it works.. ? Thoughts appreciated.

Hi Dave You know my views on low POV's !!! This is about right I reckon. Could do with a little "ooomph" but easy with levels and gamma etc. The big pebble in the background grabs a bit but you can't help that. Just my personal view. Nice shot though

Hi Dave

Not easy to get these birds to stand out against their typical habitat, with that in mind this image illustrates the bird in it's usual habitat very well. Like John I agree the large stone competes with the bird for your attention!

I'd be delighted with this! He or she is posing beautifully for you. If you had the choice you suggest, a little lower and shooting more from the right would have separated the large stone - I don't for one moment think it would have been that easy! I think it could stand a little more sharpening, especially around the face.

Update - I think you took the image off while I was writing this, as this one looks a lot sharper than the first one to me.

Dave,
Having spent a number of hours photographing these I know how hard it can be, you've taken a nice shot here. Well done.

You have to take what comes and that includes “big” pebbles. You have done really well here, the composition, detail etc. are all excellent. An excellent result.

Thanks for the comments. These birds spent only a few seconds on the ground at any time, and getting shots was somewhat manic! I've had a look through the rest of the shoot and the best image, without the large pebble, has got a ring pull and a fag end in the foreground !! Such is life!

Yes Ian - you were very sharp to spot that! I did indeed do a quick swap as I picked up the wrong image first time

I didn't even notice the big stone when I first looked at the shot. This is exactly what I was trying for (and didn't quite get) earlier in the year. I'll try not to be too jealous of this lovely picture.
