Sunset Gull
Now I'm back at uni I'm scraping the bottom of the barrel in terms of subject matter

Does this work?

Techs: 200mm, 1/800 @ f9, iso 640. Some fiddling around in curves to retain some detail in the gull.

thanks,

Billy :jump:

Personally I don't think this is bottom of the barrel in any sense. I love the low angle of the sun and the way it is lighting the flight feathers. Reminds me of cold but sunny days at a local pond.

Wonderful light and difficult to get the exposure right on these type of shots.
You have handled this one well!

Dont knock it Billy, you should take a look at the bottom of my barrell.
The light & the trees in the BG are superb looking. Exposure must have been difficult to judge shooting straight into the setting sun.

Thanks for the comments. Just to clarify, I'm happy with the shot, but now I'm back at uni all I have to shoot are gulls and mallards... not the rarest of species!

Gulls and mallards can make great subjects  I like this one, especially the light coming through the wings. I wish the upper left was less bright though.

Works for me.

An excellent shot, exceptionally well seen and executed.
