You certainly nailed this one. A cracking shot. No crits, not even the bird in the B.G.

great pose and a great idea, doesn't quite work for me though, not sure why

Considering that jet black body and the white underwing you have judged the exposure really well. Congratulations on a very different black grouse shot.

I like this!

Apart from the excellent exposure I really like the strong diagonal from the flying to the lower bird, and the line of diffuse trunk that runs down to the lower oof bird. Normally background elements like this can detract from the image - too distracting - but this just goes to prove that sometimes they can actually add a definite compositional strength to a shot, giving a strong sense of place. This image works for me on several levels, aesthetically, graphically and also in the story it tells.

We see too few images like this, and what this image does, it does very very well. Nice one Magnus.

Stunning flight shot and i like the included habitat.
Looks like you had some difficult light at hand.
Well done!

Great capture. I agree the OOF bird adds to the scene and if anything would add a bit of space on the bottom.

this is superb, the out of focus bird balances the bird in flight, the light is great, absolute stunner Magnus, must come on one of your trips soon!!

Yes I appreciate the problems with these having given up so many times. This is excellent and the only nits are the other bird and the broad pale band on the right .Easily remedied
