Hi,
I lived in the Peruvian Amazon for one year and now have a lot of unique photos of different species not normally seen (hopefully they are good shots as well). Does anyone know a good place to market these (other than national geographic)? I'm assuming its sort of a specialty topic.
Thanks so much for you help and comments! It is wonderful to get feedback.
If you're able/willing to write articles to accompany the photos, then there are tons of places where you could potentially market your work (including NPN). If writing isn't your cup of tea, then your best bet would probably be to just hit up a stock agency.
Until you have your name really built up, odds are that you're not going to find many places that want just your photos (and are willing to pay for them...) - moreso for a specialty topic.

Thank you so much for your advice. I would love to write an article about the photographs. What sort of articles are appropriate: the story leading up to the photo, a scientific description of the subject, or an explanation of the set up to take the photograph?
Also, which specific places would appreciate these articles? Does posting my photos here on this website "build my name up"
Any and all of those topics sound great Lindsay. There's lots of possibilities out there for all kinds of stories, articles, etc., that include your photos as a package deal. Pick up a copy of the book, 2009 Photographer's Market, at your local book store to get ideas about where to submit. Sincere good wishes for success.

Hi Erin,
In addition to getting the Photographer's Market, go to the bookstore and look through magazines that run the sort of stories you have in mind. Write down the contact information from the mast head. Write for the submission guidelines for photographers and writers. Many magazines now post this information on their websites.
The Writer's Market is also a valuable resource.
Also pay attention to the photography in these magazines and be sure that yours is on par with the quality of images they print--be very honest with yourself about this; you'll only get one shot at a first impression. If you're not sure, see if you can find someone (not your mother ) to give you an honest critique. Posting images on this site is a good place to start.
Another outlet is the travel section of your local newspaper. Another would be photography specific magazines and websites.
With the broad coverage that it appears you have, you can write one article and then slant it to different markets (travel, photography, natural history, environment protection) thereby getting paid multiple times for basically doing the writing work once.
So get yourself to the bookstore and start researching. And have fun with it.
