I made an last minute trip to the NC welcome center between Johnson City and Ashville this past Saturday. Since I was in the area I thought I'd find something to shoot! I took a chance hoping there would be some ice down in the gorge, it was a good guess. Man there are a lot of steps back up out of here though

Thomas you still have to shoot the water even when it's frozen!!! Last time I was there in the winter, it still was chock full of people under the fall. Looks good here, but I don't much care for the fallen pine (hemlock).

I like the fallen tree; looks natural. And I like the angle, very much, although if you got just an inch or so higher, the water hitting might be easier to see. Nice shot.
I did this hike 2 years ago and the falls and pool were frozen enough to walk out across the pool. It was overcast and snowing so the shots we're that great, but it was a blast to see the falls like that.
I also like the tree although the perspective diminishes the falls somewhat. Adds some color to what would otherwise be gray and green.
