Seeing as, the last few times I've been to DN I've taken Sanderling bait with me and seen no Sanderlings, imagine my thoughts when I rolled up there with a small workshop last week and found hundreds of the little darlings - and no bait for them!!

It's very rare that I actually take images myself when I'm teaching but I couldn't resist.

They were proving a bit too quick for the 800mm - damned hard work but I got a few,

One of my clients offered me his D3 and 500mm and so I got a few with that too - quite a bit easier to keep up with the subject, this is one.

D3
500mm f4 VR Nikkor
400iso
1/1250th @f4.5
PP Bibble Pro & CS3

Light was a bit flat, but you can't have everything - it was perfect for photographing the seals.

nice image, like the muted colours and low angle, what do you bait them with?

You just needed better quality of light. A very nice shot, capturing the Sanderling superbly. Nice one.

Andy inspite of the comments on light are you sure you dont need to give it a bit more boost.
It looks ok to me you have a catchlight and its sharp. :frown:

I'm not understanding the comments about the light. This looks absolutely stunning to me.

I agree with all about the light being just perfect, soft muted light to enhance the soft muted colours, what is this preoccupation about perfect light ?

Does every photograph of a wild animal have to conform to to kind of standard ?

Anyway, Andy for what its worth I think its perfect and wold be very happy to have it in my portfolio

Nowt much wrong with this Andy... perhaps a small levels or curves boost, but I sometime like soft muted light helps with the detail at both extremes and the almost monochromatic image looks great...
