Frozen in Time
Not sure if I've posted the whole image before or not, but it is at least part of our winter banner, so it may look familiar. From last
February, the shores of Lake Michigan look very much like this right now. These mounds of ice are out about 50 yards or so from shore and not necessarily safe for climbing, although many people do it at their own risk.

It looks pretty much the same from this side of the lake. I spent about 90 minutes this morning slipping and sliding on the ice, trying to get a few good photos. I'm not sure this is one of the better ones, but thought I'd share. Pretty cool (no pun intended) though! I wish I had a kayak and could see the ice caves from head on!

While I tried somewhat to adjust the camera settings and my polarized filter to get a good shot, I was more concerned about not sliding into the lake!

Nice POV, Eric. The biggest difference is that there is ice beyond the frozen waves on this side of the lake..I would presume due to the prevailing W/NW/SW winds.

Bernie...just think of the photo ops you're missing!
It does appear, however, that our temps are finally starting to be more normal now. Mr. Groundhog probably won't see his shadow here tomorrow, though...too much snow still on the ground for him to bother getting up! :jump:

Very nice Toni. I like the simple composition and feeling of the image. Phil's right of course, winter is just getting started along Superior.

Very nice, Toni. Those distant ice hills are quite intriguing. In the foreground, where the choppiness is...is that covering the beach? I'm curious as to exactly what's causing the different textures.

Thanks!

Kerry, I'm not sure about the foreground but it seems to me that is part of the beach. More than likely it's small chunks of snow and ice that were tossed there when the lake first started freezing.
