Bittern in habitat.
Bittern in habitat or better known as 'damn it I couldn't get any closer'. This is the only Bittern I have ever seen. Went out today to St Davids in Pembs where some Hen Harriers had been spotted. Didn't see any but then this Bittern just flew across my line of sight, landed and walked up onto the bank where it just seemed to be enjoying the sun. I was a hell of a distance from it and the image is just far too small. I waited until it moved out of sight and took half an hour to negotiate a bog to get into a closer position. Stood for two hours in six inches of water and covered by a bag hide but it didn't show again so this is what I came away with. It's a rubbish image (especially compared to the ones posted on here) but it's certainly a rare one for this neck of the woods.

Hi Robert
Well you've seen your first one, your see them everywhere from now on. One thing I noticed with Bitterns in US is they think their camo is so good you can get very close and they don't seem to mind, or they mite be just stupid, having said that you still have to find them.

Regards

A pity about the foreground and you have covered the nits yourself. Well you’ve broken your duck now, another will present itself soon.

I quite like this! I think there is some potential to crop out most of the oof foreground, balanced with a tiny bit off the top. A really nice bittern environment shot, the colours are lovely and the background it great!

I think you made an excellent shot out of the situation!
