Pileated Woodpecker
Caught this elusive bird out in front of the DeGray Lake Lodge.

I like this perspective, Daniel, and you had some really nice light. A little web sharpening might improve this...

I did a bit of sharpening on the original, but always hesitate to do too much. However, with the small size of images uploaded to the web, a bit more would not have been too much. Thanks for the suggestion.

The photo was taken early in the morning at DeGray Lodge. I went out to the car to get my camera and on the way back heard this heavy pecking. When I looked up I could hardly believe my luck. I got a few good shots, but the sudden temperature change on the lens affected the focus on some shots.

Some nice light and a fortuitous moment Daniel. I was fortunate enough to see one in the wild while driving a lonely back road a few years back. I was able to stop the car and spend a few short moments with that incredible specimen.

Nice capture, Daniel, I have seen a few but never been able to catch them with my camera.
