RE-Post: Dream Lake Saturday Morning
Had a great hike into Dream Lake Saturday morning, barely made it to the lake as the sun was hitting the top of the peaks. Unfortunately the sun wasn't as far north as I was expecting so there isn't much sun on the face of Hallett's peak. I took quite a few shots on film and they aren't developed yet. Let me know what you think.

Here is #2

I also want to thank Eric for all of his great hospitality at the gallery. I had a great time.

Jim, I was at Sprague Lake same morning, and boy was it cold!. The conditions were not great, no clouds anywhere as seen here. The light on the peaks is nice here, but I am having trouble with the amount of dark areas in the #1 scene, they are quite dominanting. #2 works better isolating the light on the peaks, and I like it slightly better. The shadow on Halletts is a bummer, but not alot you can do about that this time of year!.

I agree, I was running late so I didn't quite get the exposure right... I may try messing with it in Lightroom.

Sweet light on the peaks.
I'm thnking a crop somewhere between #1 and #2 would work best for me.

With that range in contrast, I don't think you'll be able to recover much shadow detail in the trees. Did you bracket for a possible manual blend?

I didn't get to bracket any of the sunrise shots I got this weekend.

I was just looking at the top photo vs what I have in lightroom and it is much darker on the web... I will have to do something about that.

With the exposure issues noted, I like the comp of #1. The blues on top and bottom really make the alpenglow pop. A little more shadow detail would certainly add to the image.

I'm partial to #1 as well,
PP is still very new to me beyond the basics but maybe add a touch of sharpen?

Jim was that you that passed Dave and I at the overlook above Nymph?
Posted by Jim Casteel on February 3, 2009 at 12:37 AM
Morris, that was me that passed you and Dave just moments before sunrise.

Thanks for all the comments, I was using my monitor at work and it apparently isn't even close to calibrated. I got home and the shadows were horrible. Here is a re-post with some foreground work and a little sharpening. Let me know if you think this is better...

I like the repost much better, too. Nice job, Jim.
