Amazing results using Mars technology to create a 1,474 megapixel panoramic photo of the president's inauguration. It takes a few minutes to download and I wouldn't recommend doing it with a dial-up modem. It is amazing to zoom around looking at individuals. Check out the comments, some folks actually identified themselves in the photo.

Wow! That's just amazing Don. I could look around in this scene for a while. Thanks for the link.

It's pretty funny to look at some of the detail and see all of the people using point-and-shoot/cell-phone cameras to capture the moment. Even Yo-yo Ma, with his cello at his feet, is holding one and snapping a picture.
The press stand opposite the president is interesting as well if for nothing other than the amount of expensive glass its photographers employ. On the front end of that, there's a white box filled with what appears to be unattended cameras... Remotely triggered, perhaps?
Very interesting!

Tim, I wondered how easy those press folks got up that ladder to the top of the stand. That must have been quite a feat in itself carrying all that equipment. Maybe they used some kind of lift system. I can almost read the sheet music in the orchestra. Amazing stuff!
One of the loneliest jobs must have been that tv cameraman on the roof of the capitol. I also noticed at the base of the press tower, those law enforcement folks didn't have much cold protection clothing. Brrrr
A person could spend hours looking at all the detail...
Best,
Don

Hey, I was trying to read the music too! I can see sections scratched out - revisions for time constraints, probably.
These and other gigapixel projects are so much fun to look at. It almost makes me want to try it sometime.
