That web has been brutalized by winter. Has a feeling of tragedy... I don't know how close the web was to the wood surface, but I think the image would benefit from a much softer bg. Once again, there is no shooting data to reference, so it's hard to be more specific.

I like the contrast of the cold frosted web with the warm colors of the wood. Catherine may be on to something with a more shallow depth of field suggestion. It may help the web to stand out more.

I like this one, although I agree that it would be nice to have a little background blur on the wood....if possible. Doesn't look like there was much space between them though.
One nit is that the main web at left upper third of frame is more on the gray side than white....so it doesn't draw my eye as much as the right frame.

Joe, I like this shot! I think if the wood was a little darker it would enhance the web but I guess that would have to be done through post processing.

Thanks all for your comments and suggestions. I updated the stats on the original post. I used a pretty shallow depth of field, but there was only about 2'' between the web and the fence. Some of the web looks gray due to the shadow being cast by the top of the fence.
Here's a version with a darker backround as per Roger's suggestion. Does it make more of an impact?

I like the first one but it has a lot of empty space in it. I can see three or four detail shots that would have been quite interesting. The color of the wood background is great.

Cool shot and Ditto what Mark H said. Fill the frame a little more. :)
