Ellen, my awesome daughter
I know I'm seriously wrecking my ratio but I just have to mention that Ellen came home with straight A's on her report card. She is also in the top (and sometimes beyond) of her class in sports and phys ed.

That's her with the ball. There were girls that were two feet taller and easily weighed more than twice what Ellen does on the other team. Ellen wasn't afraid of them and got in their faces quite aggressively.

A portrait I took of her in January.

Great portrait, Mark. She looks like she has an attitude which should serve her well through life.

My daughter just finished the first semester of her sophomore year in high school and has gotten 4.0's each semester of H.S. so far. She also plays on the varsity tennis team. Hopefully some type of scholarship is waiting for her at the end of her senior year cuz my photography business sure isn't going to cover much of her college tuition....

Keep the pics coming.

Man, that B-ball pic brings back some memories. I have two brothers who are 8 and 9 years younger than I am. I always helped coach whatever teams they were playing on through gradeschool. You could practice until the cows came home, telling them to stay spread out, and pass the ball. But come gametime, it was always just a big swirling mob of kids poking and pawing away at whoever happened to be holding the ball. It was always so comical.

The second pic is excellent. I'm no expert on portarit ligting, but it looks mighty fine to me. Great pose and attitude. Probably the best portrait you have posted yet, IMO.

Aaron, you nailed it as far as the B-ball thing goes!

Thanks, it's actually hard to take a bad photo of Ellen.

Better watch out Mark - come the high school years every high school male will be following her around! (that sounds wrong...)

Congrats on the basketball accomplishment!

(Great lighting on that portrait too! Are you using hot-shoe flash off camera or do you have a set of strobes?)

Thanks, I'm going to tell all her boyfriends that they better be careful because it won't bother me to go back to prison.

I have three strobes and three stands. I've been getting into using flashes lately. I've even taken a flash and a stand out on short backpack trips.

Back to prison...???

Exactly the reaction I want them to have.

Well, MY daughter just got named "Student of the Month"at Shadow Lake Elementary School. So there!

I will grant, however, that I have not been able to get as good a formal portrait of her as the one you have of Ellen.

Nice portrait Mark, the JC Penny catalog people should be calling any time now!

I still remember the questionnaire, designed for a dad to give his daughter's prospective suitor, that floated on the internet a long time ago. It had a long list of questions that I don't remember, but I do remember the question "Do you own a van?" It was followed by a note in parenthesis that stated that "If your answer to the above question was yes, you are advised to drop the questionnaire and pen and run away as fast as you can while ducking and weaving" or something to that effect.

The basketball shot is fun, and the portrait rocks! You really are nailing the lighting on these.
