Finding the single element (in this case a small tree) alone in the vast open prairie is a real joy for the photographer.
This small very scruffy tree stands alone in the Flinthills. On the top edge of a south facing rocky slope with no protection what so ever from everything mother nature brought its way. From its size it doesn't appear to be very old, but from its look up close one can tell it has led a ruff and weather filled life. Even with that, the beauty shows through, strong and dominant.

Ahhhh ... going black & white on us huh? Well this is one fine b/w Brad. I love the low perspective you chose and the composition is top notch. Great clouds to back your subject and just a touch of Flint Hills to set the location. Excellent work!
Will our group see this tree on February 21st?

Great work, Brad. I love how the FG and BG elements have a little visual opposition. THe rough textures of the grasses vs. the smooth textures of the distant hills. Great BW treatment. Excellent.
