Here are two more shots from my trip to Holla Bend about month ago. The sound that this flock made was incredible... I'm sure if I had waved a piece of bread in my hand they would have attacked me and eaten me in about 5 seconds...
I didn't have a good tele for my 5D Mark II yet, and let me tell you that ISO 400 on a D300 is crap after shooting with a full frame camera. I don't think I'll ever shoot an APS-C again.
PLEASE CRITIQUE!

Tough comparison between a 5D mk II and D300. I feel the same way when comparing the D3 to my D300. Extra reach is really a bonus when you need it though.
Are these red-winged black birds. Spooky.

Spooky is right! Especially the first one with those red spots/eyes/????

Sorry to bash the D300... I actually love everything about it but the noise. Sometimes you just need to shoot at 400 ISO or more.

That's a lot of birds!
I kind of like the birds in the second one better - more space between the birds lets you see the varying flight patterns
WOW, what a scene! It seems so chaotic unless you stand back and watch a flock as a whole. Their movement is very fluid and ordered, as shown in the little video you posted a while back. Great moment to share with us.
