Winter sunrise over Mount Ouray and southern Sawatch Range.
I made this image yesterday while on a hut trip with friends (including RMNP's Cynthia Spence) at Lost Wonder hut near Monarch Pass. This area has tons of potential, but the shooting is challenging because the hut is in a valley beneath giant peaks. I climbed up a bit to get a clear view to the south and 13,971' Mount Ouray.
This is a very painterly sky indeed, and I like the simplicity of the comp. I do find my eye getting stuck in the bright middle, though.

This is a great shot, Dave! I love the fact that you can make out plenty of detail in the snow-capped peaks in the distance. I look forward to hearing more about the trip.

Thanks Dave for posting it...looks great...glad you got something! I had a great time...but the Sand Dunes was a complete blow out.

Nice shot. Really like the shape and color of the clouds.

Great image, and title, Dave. I'm with Jackson a little bit, and wouldn't mind seeing it underexposed a bit - just as another interpretation.
