Hanging Lake last fall
In late September I was working in the Aspen area shooting fall colors. On the way home I decided to check out Hanging Lake in the evening. This photo was taken moments before sunset at what I consider the perfect time of year for Hanging Lake. Nikon D2xs with the Nikon 17-35mm lens at 33mm. f/22 at 1.3 seconds and ISO 200. Digital darkroom work done in Photoshop CS3.

This is magical. I think the upper left corner could use a little toning down–the light greens are a bit distracting, but otherwise a great shot.

Looks like you found my tripod holes, Rod.
I agree a fall evening at Hanging Lake is magical after the crowds have left.
I much prefer this side view over the typical frontal shot of the falls.

Nice shot Rod. I agree with Jim re the ULC. I have driven by that turn off on I-70 too many times and never been there... gonna have to fix that soon. What is like this time of year?

Thank you for your comments, all. John, the trail up to Hanging Lake is very steep and rocky. It can be icy this time of year so one must be very cautious.

Very nice image. Like the flowing water.

I really like the colors in this. I have yet to get up to this location, and shots like this urge me on. Nice.

Very nice comp. I haven't been there for a number of years (the 90's). I should get back there and get a digital pic of it some day.

Hi Rod,
This is really nice, I like it a lot. I was thinking of doing fall colors in the San Juans next fall and was doing a
little research here when I saw your name. We shot Zion Narrows together November 07

Great shot Rod. I'll disagree with the comments on the ULC. That area adds a lot of vitality to the scene. The comp is great.
