There's been some great posts on Dream Lake in Rocky Mountain, but it must be unusual to not have clouds up there. Made this shot in April 2007, and would like to know what you all think.

The composition is very nice and the deep blue sky contrasts wonderfully against the snow. The light isn't the best, which is my only nit.

Kudos for not putting the camera away 15 minutes after sunrise! This is a fantastic application of midday-ish light, and a very strong comp with the boulders as a great lead-in.

I think you used the foreground boulders well in your composition.

I think it is a very good scenic photograph.

I love it. The low angle and the rocks in the foreground draw me right into the image. The lack of clouds, in this instance, is a plus. Great shot in my opinion.

Classic location, but definitely a unique comp. I also like the low angle. That kiss of light along the trees on the left side is interesting too. I'm not bothered at all by the lack of clouds either. The blue sky is brilliant.

This is a great shot. It's too bad more midday photos aren't posted on NPN. As this one proves, you don't need to have sunrise or sunrise light to make a great image. I see this one being very popular on a calendar or in the tourist shops in Estes. Nice work, Chris!

I agree with the other posters that this is a great image for mid day. One additional point I would make is to crop out the snow on the bottom left by the boulder. I find myself drifting back to that area because of the bright snow. Also, looks like the horizon line is not quite level.

Thanks everyone for the positive remarks. The reason I didn't catch sunrise was because I got up too late. Other thing is, about 5 minutes after I shot it, clouds came shooting though the saddle and winds picked up. Talk about luck. It was so quiet up there during this time, that it was mightily eerie too.
I wasn't going to say this, but if you look in the month of April in the 2008 9News Weather Calendar....

The low perspective really sucks you into the scene. And you're right, you hardly ever see such a beautiful blue sky in winter pics of Dream. I do notice a clockwise tilt.

As some have mentioned, it's not the sweet light, but I'll bet this is how the average visitor has experienced it and remembers it.

This would make a perfect tourist card, for some reason, the majority of postcards on the racks are taken well after the sun comes up.
