Another shot from last week. My hit rate wasn't that successful so I only have a small percentage of sharpe shots because the focus kept locking on to small snowflakes.
Just lovely. The bar for red kite images has been raised by a substantial margin - this image, and its predecessor, show just why its worth making the effort to go out in marginal conditions....and to know exactly what you're doing when you get there.

Another nice shot Danny, my 1D3 won't lock onto a bus never mind a snow flake

Ray is right, it does not matter how many failures, you only need one good one and so far you have shown us two. Both are superb, and I for one am glad I don't have to choose between them. Great stuff.

Clarity and movement, good underlighting, sharpness and detail - NICE

Excellent shot again. If I had to pick between the two, I'd go for the first one, but I'd happily kill to have taken either !!

Fantastic! Great pose, great lighting, background and snow. Well captured!

Yet another excellent shot.
I for one would like to see one or two of your considered failures just for tutorial comparisions
What a wonderful shot, the reflected light lifts the clarity of the underside of the bird adding to the impact that may not have been there on a normal day, so nice.
Another great Image Danny, wish I lived closer (and had the guts to go out in horrid weather) kudos to you....

Cool stuff Dan. I live closer than you (under 2hrs in normal weather) and I wouldn't have dared the trip with that forecast. Amazing how you got the grey background rather than sky or a snowy field. Is there a trick to it, ie pay the extortionate photography hide fee?

That's two fabulous kite shots Danny. Well-earned and beautifully executed.
I take my hat off to you for getting such shots from places where so many of us have been and not managed anything even close.

that really is beautiful, even better than the other one in my opinion, the light on the kite against the background and then the pose too, inspiring

Top notch stuff and remarkable sharp at 1/250th sec. Best kite images I can recall and so much better than the now familiar blue sky versions. Mark

One of those shots that made me say "wow" out loud as it loaded on screen. Best red kite image I've seen, on here or elsewhere. It leaps out against that BG. Just magnificent

What a relief to hear someone like yourself had a fairly low hit rate, Danny. I was getting depressed about the ability of the Red Kites at Argaty to dodge out of the frame just as I as getting a lock on them!
Seriously, though, an excellent capture in both examples, particularly when you've found the birds without wing tags.
One day, when I get round to joining NPN, I'll post my efforts for critique.

Another really good image Danny. I think this is my favorite of the two and a nice change from the usual blue (boring ) skys. I think everyone will be trying to do this shot next year.
Hi Danny,
A really magical shot, as was your previous one.
I was also going to try for the kites in the snow but bottled out after seeing the hazardous driving conditions.
I'm kicking myself for not going now after seeing this wonderful shot.

They used to say that you only need one good shot, and that still holds true, but you have 2 certs and I suspect a few more.
Just enough of the underside showing to lift it above the norm., and excellent shot, well anticipated and taken. Just superb.
