...Laccaria laccata
A small mushroom growing to about 8cm.. Taken whilst out and about with PhilH & Fran French during the early Autumn of last year.
Kind regards,

PS just looking at this again I wonder if a little lower would have brought some gills out a bit ?
Just a thought.
Simple and elegant Brett, I love the colour of these at that location, they just seem to be richer... next up we will have to get you focus stacking....

Nice shot for a field guide. Glad you just got a bit of the gills in as this adds to the depth of the shot (as well as the foreground of course).

a nicely composed shot Brett. I would have liked a bit more DOF to keep the front edge of the mushroom in focus, but otherwise very nice.
A few minor nits, but you knew that. On balance a very nice shot

Thanks Guys, I think focus stacking might be the way to go with fungi so wont leave it so late in the season this year and hopefully get some of the results I've been after. Thanks for you comments..

Nice shot Brett, not too concerned about the tiny bits that are oof.

I like the simple but effective composition, the red against the dark background, and while I agree that a bit of focus stacking to maintain background blur and get more DoF on the cap will improve the shot (but only a little), what I think this shot really needs to improve it is a diffuser, as I find the light a bit harsh for the subject.
